Project Overview

Located in Istanbul’s Golden Horn, Tersane Istanbul is a 600-year-old site being reimagined as one of the city’s most significant industrial heritage transformations. The project redefines this historic production zone as a contemporary destination for living, culture, and experience, bringing together diverse functions and user scenarios within a large-scale urban redevelopment framework led by FTG Group.

As part of FF Creative Space’s scope, the continuously evolving construction site was closely monitored, with the dynamic nature of the site documented over time. Through a flexible and adaptive production approach, on-site progress, construction phases, and spatial transformation were captured across different intervals. Alongside the main project film, a series of building-specific construction tracking films, documentary content, and process films were developed. This approach aimed to make visible not only the final outcome, but the transformation itself as it unfolds over time.

The film documenting this transformation focuses not only on physical renewal, but on the reactivation of a site deeply embedded in the city’s memory, and its evolving relationship with contemporary urban life.

Developed by FF Creative Space, the project captures the architectural vision and transformation process of Tersane Istanbul through a cinematographic language, establishing a continuity between past and present.

Content Design

The film structure was designed to address the site’s historical layers and its transformation process through a parallel narrative framework. Traces of its industrial past, contemporary architectural interventions, and evolving public use scenarios are connected through visual continuity and comparative sequences.

The footage produced within the scope of the project captures the masterplan scale, architectural details, and user experience together, presenting the site’s different identities across time. In this process, a total of 14 interviews were conducted with the project owner, architectural leads, on-site engineers, and interior design teams, alongside recordings of project meetings and site discussions. These materials formed a significant layer of content, revealing the decision-making dynamics behind the transformation process.

Developed by FF Creative Space, this narrative approach goes beyond producing purely informative content; it aims to establish an experience-led film language that positions the viewer as an active participant in the spatial transformation.

Project Strategy

The resulting film presents a multi-layered narrative that both documents and interprets the transformation of Tersane Istanbul, located in Istanbul’s Golden Horn.

While contributing to the communication of the architectural vision, the project makes the site’s relationship with contemporary life accessible and understandable to wider audiences, while preserving its historical value.

Developed by FF Creative Space, this work redefines the role of narrative in large-scale urban transformation projects, positioning itself as a holistic content production that brings together architecture, history, and experience.

In this context, the film concludes as a powerful narrative that reveals the continuity established between past and future within Tersane Istanbul, one of Istanbul’s most significant industrial heritage sites.
